A Summer of Gratitude - I’m grateful for my church home

Well, this is my last post in August, so this will be the last post in my “summer of gratitude” blog post series. I really have enjoyed writing about the things that are close to my heart and that I am truly thankful to God for! I think I could go on and on about things I’m grateful for, and I’ll probably sneak in some more gratitude posts as we wrap up 2024.

The idea of being thankful or showing gratitude is mentioned many, many times in the Bible. When I Googled it, there were varying answers for how many times the word “gratitude” or the words “give thanks” are used in the Bible, but let’s just say, they are mentioned a lot, so the concept must be important to God!

I go to church at Harvest Community Church of the Nazarene in Mitchell, SD, and during morning announcements on Sunday, the person announcing sometimes says, “Welcome, home!” And I feel like it really is home! Geoff and I were gone for three weeks in a row this summer, and when we returned home and finally attended a church service on Sunday, it really felt like we were coming home and seeing family we had missed! I am so thankful that my church feels like home!

We have morning services, which are always amazing with wonderful worship and prayer time along with our pastor’s sermons, but we have other opportunities to get together as well. We have Sunday school, Rooted groups, Bible studies, breakfast meetings for men, ladies’ activities, Celebrate Recovery, youth group, ministry for children, etc. There’s a plethora of things to do and ways to grow closer to God and to other believers!

Some of my favorite times have been in the fellowship hall setting up for our ladies’ events, laughing and just having a good time. What a blessing it is to be able to share these moments with my church family! Thank you, Lord, for my church home!

I hope you have a church home where you feel loved and welcome! If you don’t have a church home, I invite you to my church home. It’s great!

Here's a picture from a video that my husband took of our church on July 3 of this year. We had a great time celebrating with our church family and enjoying a picnic, a worship session, a waterslide, and some fireworks!

Thanks for reading, friends!

Love,

Julie
